Sources & Verification Policy

Which sources we accept, how often we re-check them, and what happens when a manufacturer changes a specification.

Every specification on this site should be traceable to a document published by the manufacturer. This page explains how that works in practice.

Accepted sources

Accepted:

  • Official manufacturer product pages
  • Official product manuals and quick-start guides
  • Official technical datasheets and specification PDFs
  • Official regional sites, where regional variants differ
  • Authorised retailer listings, only where the manufacturer publishes nothing

Not accepted:

  • Other comparison or review websites
  • Marketplace listings from unauthorised sellers
  • Forums, social media and video descriptions
  • Press releases that give no figures
  • Anything generated by an AI model

What appears on every mower page

  • The source documents, listed and linked
  • The type of each source
  • The date the specifications were last checked
  • Whether we have physically tested the mower

If a mower has no source attached, the page says so plainly and the record cannot be marked verified.

How often records are re-checked

Records are flagged for re-verification after a configurable interval — 180 days by default. A scheduled task runs daily and queues anything that has gone stale.

Prices are treated more strictly, since they move constantly. A price older than the configured threshold is hidden from public pages automatically rather than displayed out of date.

Link checking

A weekly task checks that source URLs still resolve. It sends a single lightweight request per link with a pause between them — this is availability checking, not scraping, and we make no attempt to extract content automatically.

When a source link breaks, the record is queued for human review. A manufacturer that has moved or removed a page has often changed the product too.

Regional variants

The same model name can carry different specifications in different markets. Where we are aware of a variant, we record the region the figures apply to. Where we are not certain, we prefer to record less rather than assert something that may not hold in your country.

When specifications change

Manufacturers revise products without renaming them. When we find a changed figure:

  1. The record is updated with the new value and a new verification date.
  2. Every page that depends on that figure — category pages, comparisons, the Finder — is queued for review automatically.
  3. Where the change is significant, the mower page notes it.

Images

We do not take manufacturer photographs. Product images appear only where we have the right to use them — supplied by an affiliate programme, licensed, or our own. Where we have no image we show a plain placeholder rather than an unlicensed photograph.

Reporting an error

If a figure here does not match the manufacturer's documentation, please tell us. See the corrections policy.
